Before we dive ahead into 2011, I really want to spend a little time (just a little) looking back over 2010. It was a good year for us, and a good year for the photography industry. 2010 was the year that we launched many “game-changing” services, such as our Web Upload tool. Now, over 80% of our job submissions come in the form of upload. We continued to up the bar on what a quality post production partner should look like. In 2010, we added over 1,200 new photographers, and edited over 1.3 million images! And yet, we learned a lot. We clearly defined out goal as a company, which is to cure the pain of post production for the professional photographer. We grew to understand the dire need for amazing customer service. That means answering your questions and responding to your issues …. fast. And, through it all, we gained more and more relationships with amazing photographers like you.
Not saying that we don’t have some amazing plans for 2011! But, its nice to stop and smell the roses sometimes, right?

It’s been almost 4 years now since the official launch of ShootDotEdit. We’ve witnessed the fall of the ﬁlm lab and the new rise and of the digital era. And, although it has yet to be birthed, the era of The New Work-Flow is upon us. And, we are working tirelessly to prepare for it.
Here are a few steps we have taken this year to support of our industry position:
1. We’ve added a dedicated customer service team.
2. We have established a dedicated logistics team to ensure that quality and efficiency are paramount in our daily commitment to our customers.
3. With the help of our advisors, software developers, and strategic partnerships, we are forging new technologies designed to make your job submission process turn-key and seamless.
4. We have focused our investments in hardware, software, and man power in order to grow with our customers; to grow with the industry.
5. We have committed to pulse and survey our customers in order to diligently listen to your wants and needs.
Our culture – we’ve all heard the wedding quote “a happy wife equals a happy life”. Well we have a little quote here at SDE: “A happy editor makes the work place a whole lot better”. And, that is why we have adopted several different cultural practices found in some of the most successful tech companies to date. Essentially, we all have to work (well, most of us), and so if we are going to be excellent at what we do, ShootDotEdit wants to have a good time doing it!
ShootDotEdit fully supports The New Work-Flow. And, our goal is to cure the pain of post production for the professional photographer in ever city of the world. As we enter the New Year of 2011, I hear a lot of the same things from photographers year after year. Like “I’m working on my new price list.” and “I’m gonna update my website.” It’s great to hear photographers setting goals and planning ahead. I’m a firm believer in goals and planning, not only for personal success but also professional success. It’s tough to make major decisions for your business without understanding what the future will hold. So here are a few things I think you should consider when setting goals and planning for 2011 and beyond!
Warning: This might get a little geeky.
· Social Media ain’t going anywhere anytime soon folks. I keep a close eye on Indeed.com’s “Trends” to see what the newest and hottest jobs are. These trends helps me gauge the new technologies and how they will drive our industry. Wouldn’t you know it, four out of the top ten job trends are Social Media related. Even some of the most recognized brands in the world are embracing Social Media as a way to engage with customers and humanize their companies.
· Mobile Device usage is on the rise. Last I read, Apple was forecasted to sell over 8.5 million iPads in the US by the close of 2010. Many of the major news and media companies are moving their content online. In addition, PayPal announced that its payments business has flourished throughout the holiday shopping season, with a 300 percent increase in mobile payments!
· Cloud Computing has been around for sometime. It first hit my radar when Apple packaged it up and delivered it as their MobileMe subscription. Fast forward 4+ years, and Apple completes their brand spanking new 500,000 square foot $1 billion data center in North Carolina, which will be a server data farm. Hmmmmm…makes ya think huh?
